august recap
marrakesh, moodboarding and asmr rain sounds ☁️
Somehow, time continues to pass. Sad girl spring turned into sad girl summer and now, I’m on the cusp of optimistic girl autumn. August has brought new adventures, personal wins and brand-new favourites.
doing 🚲
watching the olympics - I’m a PE-loving kid to my core. Every four years the Olympics comes back around which means I can switch on the BBC day or night, kick back and lose myself in a sport I don’t know the rules of. My faves have always been swimming, diving and sprinting however I’ll happily shout along supporting athletes’ race for gold in kayak slalom or sprint cycling. I particularly enjoyed watching Sprint and the Simone Biles documentary on Netflix to get in the sporting spirit.
travel to marrakesh - My main expenditure this month was my 6-day trip to Marrakesh with my sister. No regrets. It was a trip of firsts; the first time my sister and I travelled together alone, my first time in Africa and my first time in Morocco! There’s a destination guide in the works, but if you’d like to see more in the meantime I created a vlog over on my YouTube.
my first hen do - One day you’re drinking lambrini in halls with someone, and the next moment you’re spending the weekend in Eastbourne celebrating their upcoming wedding. Crazy. This is my first hen do, so frankly I have nothing to compare it to but it’s certainly been one of this month’s highlights!
madly moodboarding - I think I’m a curator at my core. I’m not an exceptional photographer, blossoming writer or skilled videographer. I do however think I’ve got a creative eye. This translates nicely into mood boarding for fun and also for by the way. I take inspiration from Pinterest then use Canva, Shuffles and Bazaart — here is a fave I’ve made recently ↓
spending 💸
drinking iced americano - Since working at a coffee shop I’ve become a bit of a snob in the matter. I’ve found that too much milk, dairy or oat, is just too heavy to drink on shift during the summer. Enter iced americano - delicious and refreshing in equal parts.

driving lessons - These are still my major expense at the moment but the investment is starting to pay off. I passed my theory test at the end of this month (yay!) which meant I was able to book my practical in January. At the point of writing this, I can safely start, stop and drive around roundabouts.
moroccon ceramics - There was no way I could visit Marakesh without treating myself to something. The country is known for its incredible craftsmanship, from leather goods to colourful rugs and hand-glazed pottery — it’s a homeware-lovers heaven. I could have spent thousands shopping in the souks, so I limited myself to a single purchase. My sister opted for handwoven pillowcases. I went for two coffee mugs, finished with a blue-green marble glaze.

listening 🎧
move over brat summer, it’s charm autumn - I love Clairo so much, this album really looked me in the eye and said, I see you.
ASMR rain sounds + reiki - This is super niche but I’m coming out as an ASMR listener. It helps me focus while writing or doing admin, it helps me fall asleep and zone out — It’s like the magic antidote to making my brain shut up and allow me to live my life. Can I explain how it works? No, not really. But if you also struggle to focus I’d highlighly recommend giving it a go.
reading 📚
You can see the full breakdown of everything I’ve read during July and August in book club - chapter two. Besides this, I’ve got to shout out Wandering Souls by Cecile Pin. This book was one of the most moving novels I’ve read in years, it follows three siblings as they seek asylum from Vietnam in the UK. I don’t want to delve further into the story itself as I seriously urge you to read this one for yourself.
Another interesting ready was CNN Traveller’s recent piece on the rise of Tiktok Travel. It’s interesting, albeit, stating the obvious, highlighting how younger travellers now turn to TikTok as their search engine of choice when planning their trip.
See you next month for the start of cosy season (!)

Loved this! <3 Marrakesh is next on my travel list!
Marrakesh sounded like a fun experience, especially with all the "firsts" that happened! I've visited Tangier before and would like to see more of Morocco.
